How to make sense from the hundreds of nootropics products on the market that all claim to boost Brain Performance?
Stunned by the pace at which the global nootropics market is developing, our NootropiCentral team decided to determine the Best Nootropics and Smart Drugs out of a list of 287 nootropic supplements that all apparently boost cognition, focus and memory functions.
Purpose of the Review
The objectives of the review were:
- First, to rank the products based on the Brain Performance support provided by the collection of ingredients in each product, which we often refer to as the ingredient potency.
- Second, to provide a view of the daily cost per serving for each of the products.
A list of close to 200 nootropic compounds, neuro-vitamins, antioxidants, adaptogen extracts, amino acids and choline donors were individually evaluated for their claimed improvement for each of the four Brain Performance categories, namely mind (cognition), focus, memory and mood.
Critical evaluation criteria for each ingredient were compiled, such as the degree of scientific research, the recommended dosage and the nootropic ‘potency’ for each mental performance category. The contribution from each ingredient was capped at the recommended dosage level.
This research provided a solid background against which each ingredient in every nootropic stack could be evaluated.
Nootropic Stack Formulation
It is important to note that the success of a nootropic stack not only lies in the list of ingredients in the stack, but also in the synergistic interaction between the ingredients to provide an optimal result.
Some of the stacks that were reviewed provide full transparency on their ingredient lists. Others, however, only nominate the ingredients in their proprietary formulas, but not the dosage per ingredient.
For the latter, it was assumed that the ingredients are proportionally represented in a daily serving, based on the recommended daily dosage for each ingredient to achieve improved mental performance. A weighted value was then calculated for the proprietary formula based on the recommended dosage of the ingredient list.
The graph below provides an interesting overview of the total weighted Brain Performance potency offered by each nootropic stack against the cost per daily serving:
Cost per Serving
The indicated Price is the cost (US $) per serving, as listed on the date of publication of this review. Take note that for some products it is recommended to be used on a cyclical basis, for example 5 days ‘on’, followed by 2 days ‘off’.
Cycling of supplements will determine the number of servings per purchase and therefore influence the cost per daily serving. Nevertheless, the Price details list the advertised product price devided by the number of servings purchased.
The consolidated results for each nootropic stack are shown in the review reports against each of the Brain Performance categories, mind, focus, memory and mood, as:Optimal Performance
